What are ND's?
Naturopathic Doctors (ND’s) are licensed health care providers who have undergone extensive post-graduate training at an accredited naturopathic medical school. Accredited Naturopathic Doctors in Washington will have gone through as much, and often more, educational credits and training as high quality MD programs. ND’s are dedicated to a different approach to your healing. They practice by the naturopathic principles, which revolve around a holistic view of your health, getting to the root causes, and treating your health struggles as naturally as possible.
Education and Training
Naturopathic Physicians (ND’s) are trained to provide both standard primary care and naturopathic specialty care. ND’s graduate from a four-year naturopathic medical school, and receive the same kind of basic medical training as any other medical student. This includes an education in the conventional medical sciences, including anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, microbiology, immunology, pharmacology, cardiology, neurology, radiology, minor surgery, obstetrics, gynecology, embryology, pediatrics, psychology, pharmacology, minor surgery, dermatology, and clinical and physical diagnosis.
A Naturopathic Doctor’s education goes even further. This includes an extensive study of naturopathic clinical theory, philosophy, and therapeutics. Some of these include therapeutic and clinical nutrition, intravenous therapy, botanical (herbal) medicine, homeopathy, hydrotherapy, physical medicine, and counseling.
The Naturopath’s Goal
A naturopath’s goal, like that of most physicians, is to optimize the health and wellness of our patients. We diagnose and treat illnesses using techniques that incorporate the latest scientific evidence and research. We also go further and integrate these techniques with the wisdoms and traditions of natural medicine.
The goal is always to get you healthy as naturally and fundamentally as possible. Naturopathic Doctors just use a slightly different approach by looking at the natural functioning of the body to find root causes of your health challenges, and addressing them with natural therapies whenever possible.
At Natural Medicine of Seattle, all of our ND’s are trained to perform physical examinations, including well-child and gynecological exams, laboratory testing, nutritional and dietary assessments, metabolic analysis, allergy testing, and diagnostic testing such as X-ray and examinations. In addition, we have a professional and technologically advanced facility that can provide you with all of the basic medical necessities.
“I’ve been a patient of Dr. Procopio for around 5 years now and she has totally changed my life!! Thanks to her, I’ve never felt healthier or more energetic. She really listens and responds to all concerns in the most genuine way and I never feel like she’s distracted or rushing to get to the next patient. She’s incredibly bright and passionate about her work and interpersonally she’s a total peach.
We’ve done a lot of testing and work together that I never really thought I’d have access to in my life. She analyzed my raw data from DNA testing, we got to the bottom of hidden allergy issues, and we do regular micronutrient shots and IVs. I also have tricky veins and she is pretty much the only person I trust to find them. With her, nothing seems intimidating or overwhelming.”
